Independence, OR – June 15, 2018 – The Oregon Secretary of State’s office certified last night that retired Naval Aviator Danny Jaffer has earned the Independent Party’s nomination for Oregon House District 23. Jaffer was elected by write-in on the May 15 Oregon Primary Election, but it took several weeks to tabulate the results.
“It’s an honor to be the standard bearer for the Independent Party in House District 23,” said Jaffer. “Oregonians want independent leaders who are committed to bipartisan solutions,” Jaffer added. “Whether we’re Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Greens, or non-affiliated, we all want the same things: great schools so our kids are ready upon graduation, tax fairness so working families and small business owners can get ahead, and clean air and water so our farms, forests, and vineyards can thrive. That’s what this campaign is all about, and that’s what I will fight for in the legislature.”
Jaffer was unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 15. No Independent Party candidate filed for House District 23. Jaffer received the majority of write-in votes among Independent Party voters for their party’s nomination. Jaffer also received the cross-nomination of the Pacific Green Party at their June 2 nominating convention. Jaffer will face incumbent state Rep. Mike Nearman (R – Independence) in the General Election on November 6.
